Old floors can hide a lot. EPA lists vinyl floor tiles, the backing on sheet vinyl and flooring adhesives as possible asbestos sources, and nobody can tell by eye. We sample each layer and clear whatever tests positive before your installer begins.

We do this work in Garland and University Park too.

Floors we sample and clear

Square vinyl tile

Small square tiles from mid-century houses are sampled together with the dark mastic under them, as two separate layers. A positive floor is lifted by hand while kept wet, and EPA advises against power stripping.

Sheet vinyl

Sheet vinyl has a thin printed top over a felt-like backing, and the backing is the part EPA lists. We sample both layers and check below them for an older floor as well.

Apartment and condo floors

Matching units may share the same floor, but a unit remodeled later may not. We sample by unit type and ask your manager which units were redone, so the results are not stretched too far.

Frequently asked questions

Can I tell by looking whether my floor has asbestos?

No. A lab test on a sample is the only reliable answer.

Who removes a positive floor?

Trained people using wet methods and containment. Your remodeler can start once the floor has been cleared.

Ceilings in the same rooms are covered under popcorn ceilings.
